Jo Scott ~ Principal
Having graduated from the Birmingham School of Acting in the late 80s, Jo worked as an actress for many years, specialising in stage, film and voice work until family life put an end to touring and she decided to embark on a career in teaching. She has led a highly successful Drama department at Aldenham School in Elstree for 20 years whilst also opening her own Drama School in 2015 and Casting Agency in 2017 with long time friend, Sara Cole. Jo has a prestigious record of success in competitions such as Watford, North London and National Festivals where her pupils have scooped the top prizes year on year. Her 100% success record in 15 years of LAMDA exams has seen most pupils achieving distinction and many even a perfect score of 100. Jo is passionate about inspiring belief and self confidence in young people as well as unearthing talents that have perhaps gone unnoticed by others or even by the pupils themselves.
Richard Hilsden
Having fulfilled a long career in the Bank, Richard craved something more vocational and joined the teaching staff of Aldenham School 10 years ago. Here he found his love of caring for, and counselling children and discovered a talent for Drama that he didn’t know he had. Richard joined JSS in 2019 and became the backbone of the staff where he has looked after, advised and inspired children of all ages in his own inimitable way. Richard’s quiet and thoughtful approach to Drama teaching keeps everyone grounded. He loves to show a less subtle approach to his own performing, however.
